On behalf of the Town of Nantucket, we would like to express solidarity with all individuals that identify as Asian-American Pacific Islanders (AAPI) on Nantucket and across the United States.
We are saddened and heartbroken by the recent rise in attacks against the AAPI community. The acts of violence that took place on Tuesday, March 16, 2021 in Atlanta, Georgia are tragic. Violence and hatred is never the answer; it tears families, communities, and the country asunder.
As director of the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Office, I would like to reiterate the Select Board Pledge to the Nantucket Community issued on June 24, 2020, which states that we are committed to “do the work to make Nantucket a more just and equitable community for all its constituents.” Please visit the DEI webpage at https://www.nantucket-ma.gov/1863/Diversity-Equity-and-Inclusion- Office for the full statement and additional information.
The DEI Office welcomes any ideas or initiatives to assist the AAPI community. With support from Town leadership and our community, I am committed to ensuring that Nantucket is equitable and inclusive for all.
