The Town of Nantucket’s Senior Tax Work Off program allows seniors to defray property taxes by volunteering in participating municipal departments.
The Town of Nantucket approved an increase in the rate of pay to $14.25 an hour for 100 hours a year. As a result, volunteering for the town can reduce property taxes by a maximum of $1425, the maximum allowed by state law.
Eligible citizens must be of 60 years of age or older and a resident of Nantucket. There are additional income restrictions:
- (bullet point these please) $62,000 for a single individual who is not the head of a household.
- $78,000 for a head of household.
- $93,000 for married couples filing a joint return.

Applicants can submit their forms (found below) in person at 131 Pleasant Street or via email at amedina@nantucket-ma.gov between September 15th and October 15. Volunteer positions begin on December 1st.
