The Nantucket Police Department K-9 Unit consists of K-9 Officer Keith Mansfield and K-9 Moby. Moby is a 2 ½ year old Yellow Lab trained as a passive alert narcotics detection canine. Moby is used for daily searched at the public schools, Shipping facilities, and transportation ports. Moby is also used frequently by the detectives division once they obtain a search warrant to search for illegal narcotics. Moby has been used and has been able to detect illegal narcotics secretly hidden within vehicles and houses.
Officer Mansfield and Moby often can be found at many island events conducting demonstrations to show how they work. Recently, they have been at The Island Fair, Star Program, Nantucket New School and have marched in the Memorial Day parade.
